Here is a response from another well qualified poster from the same thread.
He was with Rio for 26 years. Are Rio Tinto likely to appoint someone who has spent pretty much their entire career with the company and who they observe to have exhibited "average peformance" to their main Board? Doesn't seem particulary likely to me. They can hardly have been unhappy with his performance at Rossing Uranium to award him the position of Mining Director for the whole group.
Also worth noting that it is not JL's job to bring the project in on-time and on-budget (though, of course, he will be ultimately reponsible). Directly, that is Norman Green's job.
Further this is an issue that I would certainly trust Dattels' judgement & due diligence on. He is more than sufficiently experienced not to be taken in by bull**** and I cannot see him agreeing to the appointment if what the poster said were true.
