I agree.
Our (Aus) weaknesses are:
-a mountain of debt with no respite in sight
-our security dependant on the USA
-our economy dependant on China
-a defence force that historically has been an overseas expeditionary force supporting US initiated wars.
20 years ago we (Aus) were worrying about Islamic terrorism and we sent our troops to Iraq & Afghanistan
to fight the US "War on Terror". ASIO and our security forces then said that Muslim terrorism* was
both our chief internal & external threats. And we spent 10s of Billions of borrowed money in that quest
in the interim but neglected our own defence systems. Had we spent that money on our own
onshore defence systems such as a Northern Aus anti-ICBMs shield, then we'd be less dependant
on the US today.
Today our security organisations are telling us that China is our #1 external enemy and
Far Right Wing activity is our chief domestic threat.
40 years ago Indonesia was our chief external threat & 60 years ago Communism was both
our chief external & internal threat (anti Viernam War demonstrators were labeled "pro-Communist"
What will be next?
*By the way, today is the anniversary of the Bali Bombing.
