Hi Osr,
The mineralogy of VMS massive sulphide consists of over 90% iron sulphide,mainly in the form of pyrite,with chalcopyrite,sphalerite and galena also being major constituents.
EM,IP,magnetic and gravity surveys have been the most common geophysical methods used in search of VMS deposits.
If you read the Dominion quarterly closely,you will note that the copper sulphide mineralisation at the bottom of the hole was associated with a strongly "altered chlorite-sericite schist" and that the geology above this mineralised interval is a quartz arenite,which was also encountered in the other 2 shallow holes in the area.This quartz arenite does not appear to be related to the geology encounted in the mineralised interval.
Why this is important?,
A typical VMS system consists of two main ore types,(1)massive sulphide and (2)stringer or stockwork ore with it's associated alteration system.The alteration zone associated with most VMS deposits forms a much larger target than the massive sulphide and is therefore one of the most important features to identify when prospecting for VMS deposits.A massive sulphide environment contains a cluster of VMS deposits associated with a single or multiple alteration systems."Chloritization,sericitation and pyritization" are common and important with the alteration zone,note the geology association with the Dominion hole.
So the answer to your question Osr,is I think DOM are onto something thats potentially very exciting,hence the reason why DOM initially approached PMH for the JV opportunity.
Another thing to note is that LSR adjoins this tenement on DOMs north eastern boundary.If you have a look at LSRs latest presentation you will see that the Marymia block has 3 similar holes along strike that were drilled by Astro in the 1990s for diamonds only and untested for base metals,but note that hole (NAB017) intersected 12m of pyrite mineralisation,(NAB019)intersected 24m of pyrite mineralisation and (NAB020) intersected 4m pyrite plus other sulphides plus copper carbonate.Makes the area all the more interesting.Also note that the image produced by LSR has the Dominion hole in the wrong location,it is actually much closer to the LSR boundary directly north east of the location that they have marked.
