li batteries are not increasing in cost because of materials cost. You can get an EV replacement battery of around 50kWh for under $20k. So it’s other costs keeping a powerwall up, not the lithium/nickel price - actually, it’s more likely it’s just set at a market price that can be easily dropped if they ever face real competition. When Lithium Sulphur batteries start getting made in bulk (2024-25), energy densities will triple - think what that does to competitors’ transport/installation/non-materials cost. As of today, a ZBM2 is more expensive than lithium. Is there a realistic future in which it gets cheaper than lithium?
