    Trees grow somewhat faster than the fossil fuels needed to produce the (non-renewable) metals you suggested.

    Cost is irrelevant compared to environmental impact.

    How about instead of trying to increase consumption of new goods we, ya know, pump the brakes a little?

    Have you not noticed all of these new and amazing technologies promise to continue our high consumption lifestyles? "Just buy this new thing... all will be better"....
