My point is Makybe is it is YOUR choice there are more affordable properties out there but it still may require sacrifice. Don't complain that all property is unaffordable when there are choices - just some that you are unwilling to make. Sure South Morang may not be acceptable due to your work being on one side of the city while the house is on the extreme of the other side of the city but there would be cheaper properties in the outer suburbs on your side of the city you just have to look.
Now I have no idea about "South Morang" but based on your a number of comments made here I would say it is similar to Davoren Park here in SA. Sure both suburbs can be rough but it isn't that bad despite perceptions and I own a couple of properties in Davoren Park and would be more than happy to live there myself.
