This is a litte off the topic but shorting has been around since the market begun, in Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre a book penned in 1923, he discusses shorting then as a strategy, its been around for a long time and not just since computerised trading commenced, and will be around for a long time after we are both gone.
