I'm not sure to what extent patent protection in certain countries overlaps with doing trials in those countries.
It impressed me that Dimerix another Australia company got 40 or so patients out of trials in India (which was far, far fewer than what they wanted - they wanted either 400 or 600 or some large number like those - so they failed and wasted money too really, in my opinion) but they did get 40 which was more than the 24 the MEND trial protocol (which I think was pretty much fatally flawed on the drawing board for confounding - but nonetheless it only required 24) managed to get in a similar time frame.
Wondering about whether CYP could have done trials in India and about patents (I don't think we have any Indian or Chinese patents - and these are big human population centres like Europe and the US are big human population centres) its seems like they might have.
Whether you have a manufacturing patent protection in a country (like China or India) would only matter if your product was being manufactured there probably.
