Shareholders who gain a greater than 5% shareholding of a company are required to disclose they are a substantial holder and must update the market when they increase or decrease shareholding by 1% or greater. If they go below the 5% level, they are no longer considered a substantial holder and so do not need to disclose any movements until they are above the 5% threshold again.
Statestreet corporation is a financial services company which offers the ability to short shares so have gone above and below the 5% threshold alot.
