Almost irrelevant is my view. It's just dogwhistling to the proles. Biden showed his hand when he talked big during election debates about holding the Saudi's responsible for Khashoggi, then as President went crawling over there begging for more oil output so the Dem's don't get slaughtered at the November midterms. The Sheikhs rightly gave him the middle finger and the rest is history. Now he needs to look strong, somehow. Any sane/rationale person knows the immediate solution to the problem is more supply, but it's (Democratic) political suicide to admit it. We're starting to see the same factor in Australian politics - certain parties shouting noisily about no new O&G projects, then months later raging at "big evil O&G corps ripping off consumers with their huge profitzzz"... without realising they have made this very bed themselves, and now must lie in it (by the way, I say all of this as a mostly politically agonist centrist).

All politicians should be forced to do Economics 101 and 102 at an absolute minimum before being allowed anywhere near office, especially those armed with an energy ideology and a Twitter account.
