If things played out as they were planned and the Russians kept doing what they know best (drinking Vodka), then those predictions could have come true IMO. Now we just have to wait for a new drawn out plan, the Russians to get thirsty and go back home and uncle Sam to throw some checks towards us and we will be back in business.
