I'm an ex LNC holder but you make some good points however don't neglect that BLK has Wesfarmers as a partner in the coal field and that the ultimate coal reserve has alot higher to go . LNC also had it fair share of environmental dispute in Qld .....

I look at the marcaps of LNC ($730 million) and BLK ($10 million) then consider whose marcap has the best chance to put on 1000% in the next few years and BLK has to be my choice .
