A 10MW electrolyser is really just a pilot. Hence, perhaps they plan to only run it during daylight hours and see how they can help support a mini-grid that way? If so, could potentially reduce H2 gen costs without investing in batteries. The "green" component of the "green" urea plant proposed for Geraldton is a lot of marketing for what's also really just pilot scale (98.5% of feed still fossil fuels).
But they do have to start somewhere. H2 is still far too expensive as a feedstock vs CH4. Pilots will build knowledge and better tech and reduce costs (lower renewables and battery costs will of course help too).
