Interesting reading "between the lines" in this official document (in the public domain --- why do so few people actually read them?) ................
https://media.defense.gov/2022/Oct/27/2003103845/-1/-1/1/2022-NATIONAL-DEFENSE-STRATEGY-NPR-MDR.PDF
eg: "TheUnited States would only consider the use of nuclear weapons in extreme circumstances to defendthe vital interests of the United States or its Allies and partners" (from part 2 of this document "2022 Nuclear Posture Review")
What does this actually mean? Clearly the doctrine of "no 1st use" has gone the way of the T Rex. But what else can we infer?

Taiwan
When Congress enacted on September 30, 2002, the Foreign Relations Authorization Act for FY 2003, it required that Taiwan be "treated as though it were designated a major non-NATO ally."[13] Despite some initial misgivings about Congress's perceived intrusion into the President's foreign affairs authority, the Bush administration subsequently submitted a letter to Congress on August 29, 2003, designating Taiwan as a major non-NATO ally.
Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova
In 2014, following the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, a bill was introduced to the United States Congress to grant major non-NATO ally status to Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.[17] A bill to make Ukraine a major non-NATO ally was introduced into the US House of Representatives in May 2019. As of 2022, these changes have not been made despite support from the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission (ie. not YET!)
Thus, if one of the above states looks like losing (despite Uncle Sam's best efforts) ...........................????
............ and Australia inshenceforth going to host 6 B-52 nuclear "capable" bombers at Tyndal in the NT
