"unbiased competent well researched media content" is not as popular as manufactured drivel that fuels peoples' existing suspicions and beliefs. Most social media outlets now appear to seek out or manufacture a variety of content so that they can serve up different stuff to different people based in the individuals profile. Whilst one social media outlet may be serving pro trump stuff to Lux, the same outlet will be serving up anti trump stuff to Max. Neither story will be balanced and deliberately so. Polarized people are more sticky and loyal to the outlet that feeds individual biases. Sticky equals advertising revenue.
