Is it possible for an entity to hold both long and short positions in a stock? This would only make sense if there was a tax benefit. For instance a foreign company could be long and cgt exempt while it’s Australian subsidiary could be short, generating losses offsettable against other income as the stock price rises. If this were possible a shart would be happy to see the stock price going up.
