Some of the majors set up 3D viewing rooms for things like this. Multiple projectors and big rooms so that it feels like you are in the reservoir. Pretty expensive to set up though. Some other O&G software allows you wear 'Avatar Glasses' and see things in 3D on just a normal monitor too.
Much like at the movies, there are a few instances where it adds something to the experience, but for the most part, it's just a gimmick.
