The price paid by Shell is half that paid by Britain's BG Group in 2008 for QGC, based on proven and probable gas reserves, which in part reflects the fact QGC assets are said to be of higher quality.
With the big guns now all set in Queensland the next corporate move will be mopping up the smaller players like Eastern Gas, Molopo et al.
