this was answered by Mike Pivac before:
1. HX to cut grove, not ideal
2. moving to larger blocks for outlayer, innner layer stitched to outlayer
3. groves are moulded at brick manufacturing
you have to remember the manual groving was on a test build at last minute switch from manual bricklaying contract and, with a prototype, HX1&2 are now redundant because they already served its purpose as site learning.
