Another totally idiot proof & humane way to catch ducks is to dig a sloping trench just wide enough for a duck to fit into down into the ground about half a meter deep.

Lay a trail of seeds along the ground & down into the trench to the end.
The duck being a greedy bugger will follow the seed trail down into the ground until he hits the end of the trench.

As we all know birds, especially ducks cant walk backwards & the trench being just wide enough to allow the duck to walk in cant open his wings to fly out.

All you have to do now is to kneel down & grab the duck.
Works a treat I promise.
