Agree on both counts. In isolation. But of course, it's all a matter of balance, and one factor alone (apart from a devastating incident such as a hail storm) doesn't equal a good crop or a disaster. Growing conditions will partly determine whether the trees can carry a heavy crop, and early- to mid-season cool and wet weather will almost certainly affect the summer heat tolerance.
On the subject of heat: I've fond in my own property that the duration of a heat wave is ,ore significant than the maximum temperature, particularly for deciduous (introduced ) trees and shrubs. A tree that can cope with 1 or 2 consecutive days of 45 degrees will quite often suffer permanent damage from a week of plus-40 days. Those conditions seem to be occurring with increasing frequency.
That may not be an issue this season, but if the la Nina collapses in the new year, then who knows?
