If this allegation is correct, & was widespread, then Optus may attract additional legal penalties, & obtain more bad publicity, for the incorrect information it gave to current & former customers about the extent of the hack: "lulling them into a false sense of security" etc.
This is just an example of the bad publicity Optus is attracting in the MSM- IMO, it will anger many of the 9.8m people affected by the hack- & cause many more defections from Optus.

The claim that this hack would be a legal issue for months & years- if correct- indicates that Optus will be attracting much bad publicity in the mainstream media- which is likely to increase its defection rates, with many switching to TLS (which should significantly increase its profits).
