Lynas has completely outclassed their nearest Western competitor, MP Materials. Until a site is nailed down with all of the support agreements in place; water, waste treatment, disposal, Lynas has to remain tightlipped. My understanding is that total investment in both US plants is @ US$180 million, the vast majority of which is funded by the US government. Equity needs to be addressed, Is this grants? Are there strings attached? And then who will the end users be?
MP has an agreement with GM. Neither has up to date magnet technology. That is the next step in the process. I would hope that LYC is working with Musk or Siemens to become a supplier.
Any way one looks at it, LYC is in the driver's seat. AL wants to spend AU$500 million to expand Mt. Weld. Good on her! It will be returned sevenfold (or more).
