Telstra puts retail energy business on hold
Telstra is putting the launch of its retail energy business on the backburner until at least the middle of next year. Chief executive Vicki Brady said it did not make sense to scale up with the “dislocation” between wholesale and retail prices crunching margins and squeezing smaller operators out.
... there is no dislocation, it is more like Telstra being burnt on its foray as the current environment does not benefit new entrants as they do not have a competitive wholesale energy portfolio. Only option is a takeover if they indeed want to move to a universally utility retailer.
