    The much larger Linfox has so much freight to Perth (partly as a result of the Melbourne - Adelaide line being closed for seven and a half days from 14 November 2022 due to flooding at Inverleigh near Geelong) that Linfox has had to call upon listed AZJ under a contract to operate intermodal trains at least once weekly between Adelaide and Perth.

    This indirectly is good for LAU as it suggests that there's big demand for freight on rail to Perth. Coastal shipping (foreign flagged carriers moving freight westbound from the ports of Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney to Perth) has collapsed since COVID-19 commenced: it was always slower than rail freight, but cheaper.

    Road freight to or from Perth is three times the cost of rail: a figure quoted to me a year ago was A$6000 by rail for one TUE (not sure if 12.2 metres or the smaller standard 6.1 metre - 20' - container) or $18000 by road. There's also a shortage of truck drivers nationally as many younger people don't want this type of job. In comparison, freight train drivers are paid a lot more per annum.
