there is another "mission" that got undue government attention as well - jigalong.
houses were built fridges and washing machines supplied and 6 months later were wrecked shells.
my margaret became a true christian mission. i visited there as well as another place outside laverton a few years ago.

and this makes a hell of a difference - if the elders and the community leaders can enforce a complete ban on grog they change completely.
yes some sins were comitted by the whites but there were equally abhorrant deeds done by the blacks and not in retribution for anything done by the europeans. the do gooders do more damage to them than they can do themselves. they are gutless wonders who havent got the courage or nous to make some tough decisions to try to help them and that doesnt mean more money.
its extrememly difficult to take the nomadic nature out of the aboriginal.
and ive travelled this wide brown land a bit too and i am adamant that people who interfere (commonly called "do gooders") make decsions that have long term detrimental effects that can not easily be reversed.
