If it's a placement to sophisticated investors then I see your logic as they will be the sole beneficiaries of a supressed /cheaper issue price.
If it's a general offer to all shareholders then the logic is somewhat less relevant.
In any event, it has been clear to many, in recent times, Mr Market has been behaving curiously to say the least.
