Well said. The point you made regarding employees looking up flights to find the cheapest one etc is an obvious one but not one that I had given much thought to previously. It's true that for leisure travel we tend to spend hours online looking for the best route etc but in large companies this would be a waste of time I think the expectation would be that the travel agent will sort everything out. Unlike leisure travel, if an employee spends time looking up flights and accomodation and comparing different routes for flight and different hotels, this costs the company money. May as well pay a travel agency who will probably cost less than the employee's hourly rate for looking up flights.

In contrast, for personal travel if one spends hours finding the best route/deal, that's a direct saving. The hourly rate of employees can not be underestimated here. Even if an employee costs $60/hr and spend just 1 hr on booking flights (in reality it would take more time in my opinion), that is 5% on a $1,200 booking. I can easily see the case for using an agent for corporate travel agents.
