Could it be possible that they are selling their shares just below the current share price and re buying them buying them straight away through a different name? This would draw down the share price while keeping the same amount of shares you originally had. This would cause panic to retail investors and then be able to pick up extremely cheap shares from anyone that is willing to sell.
Id then imagine once they have picked up enough cheap shares they will look to boost the share price up when news starts to flow.
