Pedantically, and for the record, describing Luramist as a "female viagra" is not technically correct, although for marketing and popular journalism that's probably how it will be perceived.

My understanding is this:

Luramist is a testosterone spray intended to enhance the libido.Its male equivalents are the testosterone treatments for impotence (implants, patches, oral capsules, creams/gels and now the Axiron method, whatever that is).

These hormone treatments deliver hormones to the brain to enhance sexual arousal.

Viagra does not of itself enhance the libido; it simply produces an erection independent of sexual arousal (although in males with sufficient testosterone, the erection will appear to be part of the arousal process).

Viagra dilates the blood vessels and delivers blood to the extremities so causing an erect penis, and therefore in males who lack sufficient testosterone to be sexually aroused, viagra is simply that: it delivers an erection, but not the brain arousal which is the function of testosterone.

I understand that a female version of viagra has been tested in the past (ie blood to the clitoris), but apparently was not successful in enhancing the sexual arousal of the population tested, because of the lack of connection with brain chemicals; this can be seen in males who are impotent: an erection may result from using viagra, but unless the brain chemicals (from natural or medicated testosterone) are present then it is simply a functional but not sexually aroused erection.
