Red Lakes Gold mine in Canada is 1200 meters deep. Deposits less than 300 metres from surface with an average grading of 5g/ t are extremely valuable. With todays heavy mining equipment a 200 meters of over burden will barely have a cost impact on the mining of the deposit.
