He is a little bitter. Russia saved Europe from Napoleon and the Ottomans. Soviets saved Europe from Hitler. Then when they tried to join Europe they were rejected. I guess he has a point. NATO will never stop trying to destroy Russia. He has just said he will embark on a massive expansion of the military , including six paratroop divisions and a massive increase in military armament manufacturing. I believe, including another intake of 500k men. Goes without saying he will expand and speed up the arms race.
After Merkel's confession that the Minsk agreement was a ruse to gain more time to arm Ukraine, there is nothing left to do. I think she was bragging.
The increased forces are to fight NATO. Unlike the Soviet era when they had to militarize the whole country, they have the scientific, engineering and manufacturing capability to do this without changing the economy. So now thanks to NATO, the BS about the waning superpower threatening Europe will now roar back with the actual capability of fighting Europe and more. NATO, supposed to be created to counter the Soviet menace hanging over Europe, has now forced Russia to rebuild that threat. Brilliant.
