its not just that, the capacity and infrastructure needed to charge the trucks is a massive investment. The grid will struggle with the conversation of more petrol to electric cars let alone most of trucking going electric. The irony is that for the at least the decade electric cars will be a growth driver for....fossil fuels, especially gas. Oh, and that's not even contemplating the sheer amount of stuff that will need to mined to build the gigantic battery capacity. Obviously we do need electrification in the long term, but far out is it going to be a very messy transition for many, many years.

What kind of firmed up power source produces no emissions that has large upfront costs, but then ultimately is a very cheap and reliable source of energy? Maybe the French would know? It's time the environmental movement accepts that to tackle climate change and power the electrification of transport and growth of developing nations, realistic harm minimisation as opposed to just a wind and solar utopia has to be done. Sadly the tail risks of nuclear have allowed it to be jettisoned, despite it being our only viable option to shoulder baseload power at a reasonable price.
