I understand where you are coming from, as a previous employer I truly do.
But someone has to break the mould. How about when you advertise a job, you add an addendum. Aboriginals welcome? Subject to the normal checks.
I can tell you from experience, that most would not even dare to apply, as after so many knock backs, they give up.
When I owned and ran a real estate business, we had an aboriginal applicant for a rental.
Her card was clean, there was no reason to turn her down. So I made a decision to approve her and she got the rental.
Everyone in my office, who I employed, who by the way were born and bred white Australians, were up in arms!
You cannot begin to imagine the fuss which they caused.
You cannot give this rental to an Abbo, it will lower the tone of the neighbourhood and other awful comments, which were unspeakable.
But I stuck to my guns and she was a perfect tenant.
You see, that the point which I am striving to make is that so many white Australians ARE totally racist!
Of course, we all know about the tragic cases where alcohol has ruined their families and their culture is all for one and one for all. In simpler words, they are all family and invite others to stay.
I am not naive, I do understand the problems, as do many Aboriginal people who try to improve their lives.
But do give them a chance as I did. I think if we all did our bit, their lives could be improved.
I added many clauses to the tenancy agreement, to ensure that just the applicants were allowed to stay there.
This is pretty standard anyway.
