I was aiming the lines at Mgmt & SI's (the Heartless Capitalists with no patriotism or loyalty except to themselves) & the 1c placement last year, that I said at the time was a massive screwover to the loyal LT holders (the Republicans who were fighting for a State espousing socialism, religious & gender equality).

I'm not going to argue poetry with you, you seem too well versed :)

That particular extract I believe refers to the people of Ireland being consumed with making a living rather than striking for freedom... continued "Romantic Ireland's dead and gone, it's with O'Leary in the grave" end verse.

Funnily enough Yeats originally resented the Republican movement because of his infatuation with Maude Gonne, who was married to Captain William McBride if I remember right.
His attitude changed after the callous executions of the Leaders 1916 Rising as did general public opinion who were broadly against the idea until it became obvious it was a "blood sacrifice" & inspired the War of Independence.
