jack crimson, sorry to hear about your dad's misfortunes.....but taking a shot at posters for wanting to make money by using ones skill, judgement, experience, opinion, research and courage is a bit rich here.
Given his age and his overweighting to a single share, over the years he must have noticed the declining SP...simply look at a FIVE year price chart...there's one helluva trend against wanting to be long.
In my opinion there are very good fundamental reasons (i had posted earlier with some) to view SIP as a risky stock if holding more than very, very small percentage of one's portfolio, hence the bona fide interest in it by "traders" from a risk/reward perspective.
