jojo,
I appreciate your better knowledge of the dutch society. However I'm very tempted to ask "why now?"
I don't know what these mullahs are actually saying over their pulpit. Which laws are they talking against? And, I know, lots of our Christian Greek Orthodox mulahs are also whining about how there are not enough greek schools in OZ and that the content of the history books is very limited when it comes to Greek History, that the OZ laws are too relaxed when it comes to religion and sexual conduct... blah, blah, blah! The worshippers go off to sleep, have a little gossip with their neighbours and go home. I don't know HOW fiercely the mullahs there talk against WHAT? The Netherlands have every right to apply their laws against illegality. NO question is asked about that and no one is asked to change those laws to benefit one part of their society over another.
However, it is a very inapropriate, insensitive time, to come out with a film which, in no uncertain terms is racist. It is so, because it picks up the behaviour of one couple and shows its attrocious life and then says that all muslim lives are identical. I can assure you, and you must know this, it isn't! Had it been against the jewish behaviour of men against women -which is identical, as it is in every corner of the planet- I'm sure the reaction would be identical.
The ugly thing is the insensitivity of the timing. There is a war going on between what is perceived as the muslim against the jews; the west against the east. This is not the time to flare up flames but one to quiten them down.
Holland cannot stay out of the battle as simple observers. Noone is. The planet is getting smaller by the minute, particularly when the bombs can reach its every corner and the terrorists (whatever they are) have tentacles on the very same spots!
It was not long ago that a rabbi destroyed a work of art and Sharon welcomed, condoned and praised that event. How do you think that made the muslims feel?
