So tragic...
I got caught in a rip there in my early. 20's. Fit, decent swimmer.....the sand was 5m away....but no matter how hard i swam, I couldnt get to it. In the end i grabbed a guy who was floating on something...cant quite remember what it was... I said ' sorry mate, im exhausted.....'
he said .. No worries stat as long as you want and get your breath. So i stayed for 5 then swam across it back to the beach.
I have been back but never take my kids to the back beaches.....they stay in the bay.
At least you can do that on the Mornington peninsula.
