Without the "first mover"/ early adopters it would be very hard for new products to get off the ground, as it is a lot of them barely make any money at the start. Kudos to all the early adopters with deep pockets. It's only when they enter into the mass adoption phase and the kinks are ironed out that they become affordable. Even with the current ICE cars it takes a while for the good tech to filter down into the cars that most people can afford.
Taking a purely speculative punt I'd say by 2025 we'll see many more affordable options on the market and that's when we'll truly see mass adoption. Lets hope the charging infrastructure and energy issues are sorted by then!
