Australia Day itself has become more muted. I recall in the early 2000's catching a Virgin flight on Australia Day. No sooner had the plane landed safely on the tarmac than the captain grabbed his microphone and exclaimed "Ozi Ozi Ozi," prompting the vast majority of passengers to bellow in unison "Oi Oi Oi!" On this Australia Day when planes land around the country there'll be a rather more cerebral acknowledgment of the traditional owners of the land, with respect paid to their elders past, present and emerging.
