the two biggest risks in hip surgery, are a) its major surgical procedure and takes around 90-120 minutes (or used to last time I was in OT), and b) fatty embolism from existing fatty plaques on the inner lining of veins and arteries becoming loose and breaking away during the procedure. the plaques can fragment and sometimes lodge in coronary arteries or in lung arteries causing heart attack of heart failure through damage to lung circulation.
its a high risk procedure Sab.... no surgery is without risk.
sad to read of Geyer's death... what a wonderful voice.
