I think you're right FHC. CMOS is used in sensors and microcircuitry in everyday devices, so yes, would have to operate in normal working environments.
I also went and read another piece on this work and they seem to have discovered a better, less intrusive Electron spin resonance method to control and read qubits. doesn't need the more messy antenna circuits but uses a more streamlined, possibly less error-prone chip design.
This tech is evolving extremely rapidly on many fronts.
