The gold price spent quite a while below US$1100 and got down to US$1085 for a few days.
Selling their 25.5k at current price US$1150 would mean an extra US$1.5m in the coffers - so well worth doing as well as making a clear statement regarding how they view the paper-controlled market.
If they don't need the cash on immediate tap why not leave it in the strongest form of 'money' around. It will certainly not earn them much in interest at current bank rates.
