It’s simplistic to just say that the generation of energy via coal and gas creates pollutants and therefore we shouldn’t use that type of energy. These particular energy sources are the reason why Australians currently have such an amazing quality of life. Take them away at extreme peril IMO.

The issue is how you transition. If you force the transition too quickly, you’re likely to lead to all sorts of negative outcomes like lower life expectancy, energy inflation, and intermittent brown outs or forced restrictions like being told what temperature you’re allowed to run your air conditioning at.

If the renewable energy sources and infrastructure were so reliable and just as cheap as coal and gas then no one would care less about using them (I wouldn’t). But the issue is that most people who can think beyond what a politician and corporate media is telling them, knows that coal and gas are the best options for affordability and reliability.
