When I used to trade only derivatives I traded options with no more than 3 months life and as close to the money as possible (or in the money). Worked every time if heads perform well. Here is why I think this approach is sound if you are bullish on the underlying share. I have done a payoff diagram on JPR based on 10K investment at 1c an option:
