Me personally, I sell usually sell them. It depends on where the value of the company is, in its growth cycle.
It has every thing to do with the tax man. I invest on a capital basis, not a trade basis. This means i can get 12 months capital gains tax relief by holding that 12 month period. Options qualify as well as shares, but if you convert an option into a share, you resent the clock and have to wait another 12m to qualify. So if i feel that there is way more value growth to go, i would convert. But if i feel that i have achieved the best of that re-rating, and a sideways trend is more likely in the next period, and have better seed positions begging for money, i would sell them with 12m CGTR in place, thereby keeping half of my profits tax free. Not tax advice, please speak to your accountant.
