I have a cattle station and on it I built my own private fishing lake and lakeside accommodation it covers an area of 20 acres or 80,000m2 and is 100 meters deep. It took 10 years to fill with rainwater run off. It took 4 90 tonne excavators 10 weeks to dig, with just one 8 hour shift. It cost me $1 million to dig. It was completed in the year 2000.
To move 100 plus meters of earth to get to $1 billion in gold won't be a problem. Even if excavator costs have risen 10 fold since 2000.
