Just to expand on my post and describe the situation in very simple words

- car makers have published EV sales targets as absolute numbers and / or percentages of total sales for the next years, sometimes up to 2040

- the combined number of all of these sales targets is much higher than what will likely be possible to produce with future available lithium supply

- it is for a large part not clear where car makers / battery makers want to source which lithium production volumes for which EV production volumes

- the picture is incomplete like an incomplete puzzle (there were large battery cell purchase deals between car makers and battery makers announced but without any mention of where the lithium will come from)

--> there is a transparency problem and this incomplete information on who will build which EV volumes with which lithium volumes sourced from whom results in a lack of awareness about the future lithium supply deficit and high prices in the future

- it is like 100 people dancing around 80 chairs and only after they start taking a seat on these chairs it becomes more and more obvious that there are 20 chairs missing and each chair is really desirable.

- analogous car makers / battery makers are the people, lithium companies / projects are the chairs

And yes I really do believe that many people in the EV industry still haven't figured this out completely although they are in the process of figuring this out. Take the GM Lithium Americas deal as an indicator for this.
