IMO there are several reasons why it may be beneficial for a company to repurchase its shares, including reducing the cost of capital, ownership consolidation, preserving stock prices and boosting its key financial ratios. Investors can benefit from stock buybacks because it generally takes the place of dividends. However, there are business drawbacks for stock repurchases, such as possible taxes on the buybacks. Net/net I think it would be a good thing.
