ICE engines are very reliable in this day and age and I would suggest maintenance these days is minimal whereas a battery just slowly runs out of puff. To do a realistic comparison you would need to know the value of and replacement cost of the puffed out battery. I think there is still a few unknowns to be answered before writing off the ICE.
